Jeff, I agree that many school kids come out to employers thinking they already know it all.
But it isn't a new phenomena. I believe every generation has done the same, because as kids we did think we knew it all.
The biggest difference in every generation is the technology available to them to allow them to think they are smarter. Television, let alone being colour, calculator, computers, laptops, mobile phones are all generational shifts in technology which have advanced education and self belief in knowing everything.
Today, technology provides more in print and video than ever before, yet the basic skills learnt by kids about what is needed to be known in the real world of commerce remains lacking.
This is where you will provide the bridge between expectations and reality - what the kids think they know, and the reality of what employers and the world in general expect them to know.
They will all face some level of adversity, it is down to who well prepared they are for it, and how quickly they will adapt through further education in life.
Great endeavours on your part.
